Obedience Classes

All classes are held at the Cheviot Hills Recreation Center, on Motor Ave near Pico Blvd, in West Los Angeles.

You may register for a class if there is a start date posted and if the class is not already marked full. Please send in your registration form and check as soon as you know which class you want to take. Classes do fill, and we do not reserve places in class until we have received your signed waiver and payment. If you're signing up for a class with a waiting list, we will contact you when we receive your pre-registration.

Holiday - Match Special Announcement!

Classes will NOT be held on Labor Day Weekend (Sept 4th thru 6th) or

the WLAOTC match Saturday August 7.

Puppy and Manners	Wednesdays 7 pm - 8 pm	August 4, 2010	Lynn	8 weeks $85	Puppies 3 to 6 months old Socialization and puppy manners (quieting and relaxing when touched), introduction to basic obedience (sit, down, basic leash manners, recall, stay), discusses responsible pet ownership and how to deal with puppy behaviours such as chewing, digging, jumping, etc. Teaches how to get your puppy's attention ("watch me"), street boundary training.

Novice Obedience: Introduction to Clicker Training	Wednesdays 7pm - 8pm	August 11, 2010	Gabrielle	8 weeks $85	This class provides an introduction to clicker training and methods of operant conditioning using positive reinforcement. All handlers and their dogs are welcome, regardless of experience level; however, handlers with some prior experience will benefit most.
Novice Obedience	Mondays 5 pm - 6 pm	July 19, 2010	Tawn	8 weeks $85	Dogs 5 months old and older Registrations will not be accepted for dogs under 5 months old. Teaching practical obedience using positive reinforcement.

Intermediate Novice	Saturdays 10:30 am - 11:30 am	July 31, 2010	Lynn	8 weeks $85	Successful completion of a WLAOTC Novice Obedience class or permission of the Trainer. Continuation of training to reinforce exercises learned in Novice Obedience through repetition and added distractions. New exercises are introduced. This class aims to help build the foundation necessary for those who wish to continue in Obedience training and for those seeking to improve their dogs basic skills.
Intermediate Novice	Wednesdays 8pm - 9pm	July 21, 2010	Gabrielle	8 weeks $85
Advanced Novice Obedience	Wednesdays 6pm - 7pm	August 11, 2010	Tawn	8 weeks $85	Successful completion of a WLAOTC Intermediate Novice Obedience Class or permission of the trainer. Dogs must be solid in Novice Obedience Exercises. This class works on improving precision of all elements of Novice Obedience exercises; fronts, finishes, figure 8's, stand for exam, pivots, recalls, stays and heeling. Provides emphasis on attention and focus of your dogs.
Advanced Novice Obedience				8 weeks $85
Competition Prep	Mondays 7 pm - 8 pm	August 2, 2010	Tawn	8 weeks $85	Successful completion of a WLAOTC Advanced Novice Obedience Class or permission of the trainer. Dogs must be solid in most Novice Obedience Exercises. It aims to improve or perfect performance in Novice exercises and develop the attention needed for competition. Students who do not plan to compete in Obedience are welcome.
Competition Prep	Mondays 6pm - 7pm	August 2, 2010	Tawn	8 weeks $85
Open/Utility Obedience	Thursdays 10:30 am - 11:30 am	September 16, 2010	Tawn	12 weeks $120	Permission of the Trainer is Mandatory. Dogs must be proficient in Advance Novice Exercises. Advanced obedience training emphasizing the exercises required for CDX (Open).
Open/Utility Obedience	Wednesdays 7 pm - 8 pm	September 22, 2010	Tawn	12 weeks $120	Permission of the Trainer is Mandatory. Dogs must be proficient in Advance Novice Exercises for Open. Advanced obedience training emphasizing the exercises required for CDX (Open) and UD (Utility).
Beginning Rally Obedience	Mondays 8pm - 9pm	August 30, 2010	Tawn	8 weeks $85	Novice Obedience or Equivalent Required skills: Familiar with heel, sit, down, stand, front, finish and figure 8 exercises. Learn signs used on Rally Obedience Courses
Rally Obedience Advanced/Excellent	Wednesdays 5pm - 6pm	September 1, 2010	Tawn	8 weeks $100	Enrollment priority will be given to students who are active WLAOTC club members and then to people whose dogs have earned their RN titles. The purpose is advanced training in Rally Obedience emphasizing exercises required for Rally Advanced and Rally Excellent courses. Students are required to arrive early to do set-up and stay until class ends to do tear-down.

Feisty Fido	Saturdays 9:30 am - 10:30 am	July 31, 2010	Lynn	8 weeks $145	This class will focus on techniques for handling your Feisty Fido. This class uses positive training techniques to address behavior issues in leash-reactive dogs.

You must be registered and have paid in advance in order to participate in the Conformation class. No day of class show ups are allowed unless arrangements have been made with the Obedience Director in advance. Please email us at: obedience@wlaotc.com if you have any questions.
